Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States University of Minnesota Twin Cities Full time

Position Overview:
The University of Minnesota Twin Cities is actively seeking to appoint new tenure-track faculty members at the levels of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor within the Department of Psychiatry.

Research Focus:
The Department has pinpointed neurodevelopment, neuroplasticity, and neuromodulation as pivotal domains for advancing research that will significantly enhance our understanding of the origins and early manifestations of mental health disorders.

Division Objectives:
The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is dedicated to generating new insights into the causes and mechanisms underlying mental health challenges in youth. Our goal is to identify these issues at an earlier stage and to develop more effective intervention strategies.

Position Requirements:
Assistant Professor roles will be on the Tenure Track; candidates at this level are expected to possess relevant training and research achievements that align with the establishment of an independent and nationally recognized research program.

For Associate Professor and Professor roles, candidates will be eligible for Tenure Track or Tenure; these positions necessitate a proven record of independence and research output, including a robust history of securing major external funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Research Resources:
Key institutional resources available to support research in child and adolescent psychiatry include:

  • The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR), featuring cutting-edge capabilities for high-field, high-resolution imaging.
  • Collaborative partnerships with esteemed faculty across renowned research departments and centers.
  • Access to the Institute of Child Development, Departments of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Computer Sciences and Engineering, the Center for Neurobehavioral Development, and the Institute for Engineering in Medicine.
  • The Institute for Translational Research in Children's Mental Health.

A competitive compensation and benefits package will be provided to support these faculty positions.

Encouragement for Diverse Applicants:
We strongly encourage applications from individuals with backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the field of medicine.

Application Process:
In addition to the online application, candidates are required to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references.

Qualifications:
Qualified applicants will hold either an MD or DO degree, have completed specialized training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and demonstrate a successful track record of research initiatives in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry appropriate to their career stage. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Investigating normal and abnormal developmental pathways in youth to elucidate neurodevelopmental foundations of psychiatric conditions.
  • Formulating strategies for early detection, intervention, and prevention.
  • Employing an experimental therapeutics approach to create innovative interventions targeting neurobiology in children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders, aiming to restore healthy developmental pathways.
  • Utilizing neuromodulation techniques (e.g., brain stimulation, cognitive training) to enhance understanding of neurodevelopment and neuroplasticity processes in children and adolescents, both with and without psychiatric conditions.
