Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Process Systems Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing testing, troubleshooting, repairing, installing and modifying mechanical equipment and systems. This includes making adjustments to various equipment, such as process pumps, blowers, compressors, bearings, valves, mechanical screens, and process piping. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and hydraulic principles, as well as the ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and blueprints.
Responsibilities
As an Industrial Process Systems Technician, you will be responsible for:
- Performing testing and overhaul of mechanical equipment and process piping systems in accordance with applicable procedures and guidelines.
- Installing and replacing process piping, valves, and other appurtenances fabricated from copper, brass, steel, ductile iron, PVC and stainless steel and other materials common to the industry.
- Performing work involving the installation of complex mechanical and hydraulic systems or pumping units.
- Performing life safety testing and maintenance of backflow prevention devices in facilities located in Distribution and Conveyance Systems areas of responsibility.
- Adhering to Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedure and confined space entry protocols related to the maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) for mechanical and other hazards within the work environment.
- Performing maintenance related housekeeping duties as required in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Utilizing MAXIMO Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to review assignments and document work completed in the maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Maintaining equipment and tools utilized to test, repair, install, and replace equipment.
- Maintaining and managing shop stock including inventory stored in mobile units.
- Operating Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintaining vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
- Complies with rules and regulations related to safety and other work-related policies and procedures of the Authority.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Four (4) years of progressive experience directly associated with installing, repairing and maintaining mechanical and/or hydraulic components of machinery, equipment and systems.
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic principles related to complex multi-component assembles and devices.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic principles.
- Able to use basic test equipment to diagnose and correct equipment and control system problems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools such as, but not limited to, drill press, pedestal grinder, or rip saw.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and blueprints.
- Basic knowledge of pertinent safety guidelines, rules and regulations of OSHA and other governing entities.
- Good oral and written communication skills and abilities.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to utilize standard office management systems, including computers, scanners, copiers, printers, and software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet-based software applications.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.
- Within twelve (12) months from date of hire, must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License, and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.
- Must possess and maintain current the Authority's certification as a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester.
- Participates and successfully completes forklift and overhead crane training programs and refresher courses.
- Ability to properly utilize rigging and lifting equipment.
