Job Summary:

The School of Visual Arts is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Studio Technology Specialist to provide technical and logistical support for the MFA Interaction Design program. As a key member of the department, you will be responsible for organizing, coordinating, and maintaining the use of a library of hardware equipment and electronics materials for students and faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty and students regarding technology needs and materials, providing technical support for classes, workshops, guest lectures, and special events.
  • Equipment Management: Manage the department's technical equipment and resources, including researching and recommending technological enhancements for courses and student projects. Oversee warranties, repair records, and inventories for hardware and software libraries.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with department staff to maintain clean, organized, and fully functioning studios and classrooms. Work with other SVA departments to ensure technology and security updates are implemented and assist with hardware and software installations as needed.
  • Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Attend weekly staff meetings and liaise with SVA's IT department to address and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Studio Experience: Experience working in a studio environment, with an understanding of current technology trends and innovations in design and art.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency and operational knowledge in: Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and WordPress.
  • Web Development: Knowledge of web scripting languages, including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Maker Tools: Experience working with maker tools (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking) and physical computing tools (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino, sensors, actuators).
  • Interaction Design: Familiarity with interaction design, and alignment with MFA ixD values and the SVA mission.
