Position: Engineering Technician

Contract Duration: 6-12 months+

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite

As a key member of Tech Providers, Inc, the Engineering Technician will possess a profound knowledge of utility system design and analysis, utilizing advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) software.

The Engineering Technician will be tasked with designing a range of projects that vary in complexity from intermediate to advanced levels. This role requires frequent collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and management to ensure adherence to standards and effective execution of project responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify system materials and their appropriate applications.
  • Prepare detailed work orders.
  • Engage in comprehensive planning and research activities.
  • Provide field design and support for utility systems.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members.
  • Utilize CAD software for creating and modifying technical drawings and detailed designs, incorporating necessary changes into existing plans.
  • Apply utility design and construction standards to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Select suitable materials and components based on project specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret industry standards, maps, blueprints, survey data, and project scope requirements.
  • Consult with internal departments to assess project needs, specifications, and potential issues, ensuring effective task prioritization and coordination.
  • Understand and recommend departmental standards, procedures, and job aids related to project documentation.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to collect and verify data and provide support during construction phases.
  • Prepare and update necessary forms and system application data associated with project work orders.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD software, including MicroStation V8i or v10, AutoCAD, Open Plant, and GIS.
  • 4 - 7 years of relevant experience; 7-10 years preferred.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in utility operations.
  • Ability to understand and apply regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Capability to address complex problems using existing computer-based solutions.
  • Technical writing proficiency.
  • Project planning and coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Educational Background:

Technical or Engineering Associate Degree is required.
