Contract Duration: 6-12 months+
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite (M, T, Th) in designated locations.
The Engineering Technician will possess a comprehensive understanding of utility system design and analysis, utilizing advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
This role requires the technician to manage a range of projects with varying complexities, frequently collaborating with internal teams, contractors, and management to ensure adherence to standards and effective project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify system materials and their appropriate applications.
- Prepare and manage work orders efficiently.
- Engage in thorough planning and research activities.
- Provide on-site design and support for utility systems.
- Mentor and train junior staff members.
- Utilize CAD software for the creation and modification of technical drawings and detailed designs, incorporating necessary revisions.
- Apply utility design and construction standards to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Select suitable materials and components based on project specifications.
- Analyze and interpret industry standards, maps, blueprints, survey data, and project requirements.
- Consult with internal departments to assess project needs, including specifications, reporting, and problem-solving.
- Understand and recommend departmental standards, procedures, and job aids related to project documentation.
- Conduct site visits to gather and verify data, providing support during construction as needed.
- Prepare and update forms and system application data associated with project work orders.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software, including MicroStation V8i or v10, AutoCAD, Open Plant, and GIS.
- 4 - 7 years of relevant experience required; 7-10 years preferred.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge and experience in utility operations.
- Ability to understand and apply regulations, company policies, and standards.
- Proficient in solving complex problems using existing computer-based solutions.
- Technical writing skills.
- Project planning and coordination abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Educational Requirements:
Technical or Engineering Associate Degree is required.
