Overview:

The Senior Engineering Technician is responsible for possessing a comprehensive understanding of utility system design and analysis through the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies.

This role involves the design of various projects that range from intermediate to advanced complexity, requiring frequent collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and management to ensure adherence to compliance standards and effective project task management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify system materials and their appropriate applications.
  • Prepare and manage work orders efficiently.
  • Engage in thorough planning and research activities.
  • Provide field design and support for utility systems.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members.
  • Utilize CAD software for the creation and modification of technical drawings and detailed designs, incorporating design changes into existing plans.
  • Apply utility design and construction standards to ensure compliance.
  • Select suitable materials and components based on project specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret industry standards, maps, blueprints, survey data, and project scope requirements.
  • Consult with internal departments to review project specifications, discuss challenges and solutions, prioritize tasks, and address permitting and environmental considerations.
  • Understand and recommend departmental standards, procedures, and processes related to plans, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Conduct site visits to collect and verify drawing data, providing support during construction as necessary.
  • Prepare and update forms and system application data associated with project work orders.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD software, including MicroStation V8i or v10, AutoCAD, Open Plant, and GIS.
  • 4 - 7 years of relevant experience required; 7-10 years preferred.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in utility operations.
  • Ability to understand and apply regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Proficient in solving complex problems using existing computer-based solutions.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Project planning and coordination capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

Technical or Engineering Associates Degree
