Job Overview

Clinical Support Specialist collaborates with the Clinic Manager to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care during operational hours. This role is integral to a multidisciplinary health care team, which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, patient service representatives, medical records personnel, health educators, and social workers, all dedicated to delivering comprehensive care in a respectful and supportive environment at Unicare Community Health Centers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide essential support to the medical assistant team, executing all necessary functions.
  • Facilitate patient intake, financial assessments, and preparation for appointments.
  • Assist in the training of medical and laboratory assistants, as well as volunteer staff in health education and laboratory procedures.
  • Support medication refill requests, specialty referrals, and pre/post-visit chart reviews as needed.
  • Examine patient charts, lab results, and encounter forms for thoroughness and follow-up actions.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to oversee inventory logs and ensure quality assurance in storage practices.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and maintenance of medical supplies.
  • Provide coverage for other medical assistants during absences.
  • Participate in daily and monthly quality assurance evaluations, including emergency kit inspections.
  • Maintain records of refrigerator and freezer temperature logs.
  • Order vaccines as required.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college education preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant training program is mandatory.
  • Phlebotomy certification is advantageous.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an outpatient medical clinic or hospital environment is required.

Work Environment:

Exposure to non-ionizing radiation (microwaves).

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday, with starting times between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and ending times between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Occasional Saturday work may be required, and travel to various Unicare Community Health Center locations may be necessary for meetings or assignments.
