Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Assistant III to join our team at the Secretary of State. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex legal assistant work, including researching, analyzing, and drafting legal documents, as well as assisting attorneys with managing administrative dockets and legal correspondence workloads.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, petitions, and other legal documents
  • Research and analyze sources such as statutes, case law, administrative records, opinions, articles, treaties, and rules and regulations
  • Organize service of subpoenas, service of notices of deposition, and preparation of other legal documents
  • Check citations, quotations, footnotes, and references for accuracy
  • Summarize laws, rules, and regulations
  • Schedule, attend, and prepare attorneys for hearings, meetings, interviews, and docket calls
  • Review and perform redacting of confidential documents for filing with various courts
  • Perform related work as assigned
Requirements
  • Experience in legal assistance work
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, research methods and techniques, administrative procedures, the legislative process, and public notice requirements
  • Ability to conduct research, draft, prepare, and interpret legal documents, evaluate and relate findings to cases in question, conduct investigations, and communicate effectively
  • Skill in interacting with and responding to senior agency leadership
  • Skill in handling rapidly changing priorities
