Job Title: Engineering Assistant Trainee

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications.

The requirements for the Engineering Assistant Trainee role include:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Evidence of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) along with one year of full-time engineering experience.

Engineering Trainees will participate in a 24-month training program leading to the role of Assistant Engineer, Grade 20, contingent upon the successful completion of specific criteria set by the appointing authority.

Progression to Assistant Engineer is achievable upon obtaining the FE certification and completing twelve months of the traineeship.

Key responsibilities encompass the design of capital roadway or bridge projects, preparation of engineering drawings, cost estimates, and involvement in inspection teams.

Assistant Engineer Requirements:

Candidates must provide proof of passing the NCEES FE and possess a qualifying bachelor's degree or have one year of full-time relevant engineering experience.

Acceptable degrees include Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geological Engineering, among others.

Relevant experience includes one year of engineering work on transportation projects related to various infrastructure.

Duties Description:

Incumbents will operate under the guidance and supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

  • Design Responsibilities:

Duties encompass a range of engineering tasks such as project design, drafting, project documentation, quality assurance, and construction support.

  • Construction Responsibilities:

Assistant Engineers may assume various roles within construction projects, field assignments, and technical services, which may require occasional overnight, night, and weekend work.

  • Traffic Responsibilities:

Duties include transportation geometric design, traffic engineering, highway capacity analysis, and operational assessments.

Assistant Engineers also participate in preparing project documentation, supervising technicians, and coordinating traffic systems activities.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to meet travel requirements and support regional and statewide emergency responses.

Some positions may necessitate additional credentials or background checks.
