About the Role
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides critical services using radionuclides to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of disease. This role requires a strong understanding of human anatomy, patient care, positioning, and radiation protection principles.
Responsibilities
- Perform Nuclear Medicine exams in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Administer prescribed pharmaceutical-grade radioactive materials to patients as outlined by state and federal regulations.
- Demonstrate appropriate radioactive materials safety measures for self, other staff, and patients.
- Explain procedures to patients prior to exams.
- Demonstrate proficiency with equipment used for NM exams.
- Ensure availability of physician for procedures requiring medication administration and supervision.
- Perform duties to maintain department functions, including QC checks.
- Maintain required documentation regarding radioactive materials.
- Perform surveys and document findings of work areas, patient rooms, and radioactive waste storage areas.
- Adhere to policies related to Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Radiation Safety guidelines.
- Work with the Radiation Safety Officer to maintain quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
Requirements
- Graduate from an approved Joint Review Committee on Education Program in Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent.
- One year of experience as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred.
- Certified or Temporary Certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Medical Radiologic Technologist.
- Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (CNMTB) or Certified in nuclear medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (N) or Board eligible to take the CNMT or ARRT (N) examinations within 24 months.
