Job Overview

We're seeking a highly skilled Certification Engineer to join our high-velocity culture. As a key member of our certification team, you'll work closely with the Electric Propulsion team to contribute to the design, development, validation, and verification of systems. You'll gain experience in a broad range of technologies and toolsets, and be integrated into a dynamic and fast-paced development team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide subject matter expert guidance to the wider design team in relation to certification aspects
  • Champion the use of design assurance processes and aid the project and engineering teams with the implementation of these processes
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining ways of working while remaining compliant with both FAA and CAA organisational requirements
  • Develop the means of compliance for new and novel technologies, including the creation of issue papers
  • Lead the creation of compliance demonstration documentation in accordance with ZeroAvia's Design Assurance Procedures
  • Coordinate with systems test teams to generate efficient and appropriate test strategy, plans, and reports
  • Assist with the creation of Experimental Flight Permit / Flight Conditions and Permit to Fly documentation
  • Interface with various internal and external organisations as required
  • Take an active role in regulator liaison
  • Act as Certification Test Witness
  • Act as Compliance Verification Engineer within your core subject matter expertise (where independent)
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years practical experience working in an FAA certification organisation
  • CAA/EASA Part 21J or Military Design Organisation environment
  • Experience carrying out Type Certification or Significant Major Modifications / Supplemental Type Certificate activities
  • Aeronautical Degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR 21 (or Part 21J) Regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR 23/25 (or CS-23/25) aircraft specifications and associated means of compliance
  • Experience in compliance analysis and compilation of certification documentation
  • Specialist knowledge of at least one of the following: Mechanical Systems, Powerplant/Fuel, Electrical Systems/Avionics, Modification Integration
Desirable Experience/Qualifications
  • Previous approval as check signatory, FAA DER/DAR or Part 21J Compliance Verification Engineer
  • Good understanding of 14 CFR 33 or CS-E Regulations
  • Good understanding of FAA Order 8110-4C
  • Previous experience of drafting and implementing Design Assurance procedures and processes
  • Experience with certification of new and novel technologies would be highly desirable
  • Experience with Polarion, TeamCentre or similar desirable
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $135,000 - $150,000, plus additional compensation and benefits, including:

  • Annual discretionary bonuses
  • Ability to exercise company stock options

  • Employer covers up to 80% of the employee's monthly premiums on medical, dental, and vision
  • Basic Life/AD&D of up to $50,000 and the option to add on Supplemental Coverage
  • Up to 60% of your earnings for up to a period of 24 weeks
  • LTD Coverage for up to 60% of your earnings
  • Eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours per year (15 days) and may borrow up to 40 hours (5 days)
  • Eligible employees may accrue up to 40 hours, per year (5 days)
  • 12 observed holidays, per calendar year
  • Up to $2,000 of reimbursement towards flying lessons to all full-time staff
