We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Director to lead our National Accounts team in Casualty-Large Casualty. Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to manage complex risks and achieve business objectives.
- Collaborate with senior management to assess acceptability of complex underwriting risks and develop specialized endorsement language.
- Determine pricing for complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis, ensuring compliance with company requirements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of underwriting policy, marketing, and business strategy.
- Interpret corporate strategies and initiatives to tailor our approach to the assigned territory, building consensus within the organization.
- Analyze quality, quantity, and profitability of complex risks underwritten, presenting reports to senior management.
- Market products and services through agencies or the brokerage community, making field visits as needed.
- Develop and maintain agency and/or broker relationships, particularly with key customers in the assigned territory, to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
- Stay current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends, representing the company in industry trade groups as needed.
- Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters, assisting in the development of underwriting training.
- Lead special underwriting projects and presentations.
- High level of technical and product-specific expertise, underwriting skill, and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
- Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
- Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with professional designations preferred.
- Typically a minimum ten years underwriting experience with a proven track record of results.
