Job Overview

As a Structural Steel Fabrication Project Manager at Rio Grande Co, you will take charge of the fabrication, detailing, estimation, and successful implementation of structural steel components within various construction projects, both commercial and residential. Your responsibilities will include managing internal teams as well as external estimating and detailing services, ensuring that all parties are aligned and informed as issues arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate detailed project plans for steel fabrication and detailing, taking into account timelines, resource allocation, and profitability metrics. Collaborate with production teams, procurement departments, and facility managers to guarantee timely steel detailing that meets project specifications.
  • Oversee the fabrication process, ensuring that materials are produced and delivered on schedule while adhering to quality standards. Work alongside fabrication teams to enhance production efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Conduct precise estimations for structural steel needs based on project designs and specifications. Maintain high standards in estimations and detailing while monitoring project budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness without sacrificing quality.
  • Coordinate with external detailing service providers to guarantee accurate and timely completion of detailing tasks. Review and authorize steel detailing plans to ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with outside sales account managers to nurture client relationships and ensure project success. Provide necessary support and guidance to the sales team to meet client expectations and execute projects effectively.
  • Implement quality control measures and partner with the Steel Fabrication Manager to ensure accuracy in fabrication orders and timely deliveries to job sites. Identify potential risks and develop proactive strategies to prevent project delays or budget overruns.
  • Act as the primary liaison among internal teams, external vendors, clients, and management. Foster effective communication and collaboration to ensure smooth project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Work with the Accounting Team to manage change orders and track lump sum contracts.

Job Functions:

  • Management of structural steel projects: 80%
  • Collaboration on cash customer projects: 10%
  • Coordination with Steel Manager, Account Managers, and Division Manager: 10%

Qualifications:

  • A degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field is preferred.
  • Five to seven years of experience in structural steel detailing, estimating, or a similar role within the construction sector.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication and cutting equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the construction industry.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled environment with frequent sedentary tasks. Occasional standing is required, and the ability to lift, bend, stop, and kneel is necessary.
