Position Overview

The City of Alexandria is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Treasury Accountant to contribute to our Finance Department. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity of the City's financial operations, particularly in managing the accounts receivable systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Treasury Accountant will be tasked with ensuring the accuracy and completeness of transactions across the City's four accounts receivable systems, which include real estate tax, personal property tax, business taxes, and parking violations. This position will also involve significant collaboration with Treasury staff to enhance customer service in a dynamic environment.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles and practices, with specific experience in local government tax collection and accounts receivable management. The following skills and experiences are highly valued:
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting theories and practices;
  • Experience with various tax types, including real estate and personal property taxes;
  • Familiarity with bank lockboxes and third-party payment systems;
  • Proven ability to conduct complex reconciliations and resolve financial discrepancies;
  • Proficiency in financial systems for data management and reporting;
  • Strong analytical skills with advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities Include
  • Resolving intricate financial issues through detailed analysis of account transactions;
  • Interpreting relevant Federal, State, and City regulations related to Treasury functions;
  • Assisting in the training of staff on financial procedures and systems;
  • Conducting audits and preparing documentation for external auditors;
  • Addressing customer inquiries that require specialized knowledge and expertise;
  • Collaborating with the Financial Business Process team to enhance system efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
