Program Development and Leadership Specialist

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean for Extension/Administrator, the Extension Program Leader supervises Family and Consumer Sciences state and county staff; works closely with faculty and staff in all phases of the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides administrative and program leadership for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive statewide Extension program for low-income, limited-resource, and underserved audiences.
- Responsibilities also include budget review; personnel administration; staff development; employee relations; liaison with local government, state, and federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations; supervision of clerical, technical, specialists, and county staff, and knowledge and ability to obtain and manage multi-institutional grants and external funds.
Qualifications
- Minimum:
- Masters degree in Family & Consumer Sciences or an appropriate related field.
- Strong demonstrated Extension programming and administrative leadership skills.
- An understanding of and ability to communicate with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated abilities in the area of planning, organizing, motivating, and team building.
- Substantial knowledge of organization, operation, philosophy, and goals of Extension.
- Ability to be creative and innovative in design and implementation of effective educational programs.
- A comprehensive understanding of higher education, knowledge of and experience in the land-grant community, and demonstrated capability to cultivate relationships with local, state, regional, national, and international constituents.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Doctorate degree in Family & Consumer Sciences.
Working Conditions
- Work full-time, sometimes on a rotating, flexible schedule that requires working extended workdays and weekends.
- Operate state vehicles for travel to attend conferences, meetings, trainings.
- Occasional travel, including overnight and air travel.
Physical Requirements
Must possess mobility to work in an office setting, as well as, outdoors and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle to visit various sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Standing and walking are frequently required; must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds with the use of proper equipment.
