At SpaceX, we are pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at our rocket development and test site in Brownsville, TX.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental and occupational health and safety, with experience in implementing and maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, NFPA, and NIOSH. They will also have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Performing detailed safety reviews of complex hazardous operations to ensure safe execution
  • Leading or assisting in incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development and closure
  • Developing and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines
  • Collaborating with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures
  • Implementing and developing safety and health programs, including but not limited to OSHA general industry and construction standards, HAZCOM, hazmat, cryogenics, compressed gases, confined space, fall protection and lock-out/tag-out, radiation and laser safety
  • Implementing and developing environmental programs, including but not limited to SPCC & SWPPP, Title V air permitting, LQG hazardous waste management
  • Developing safety solutions to resolve EHS hazards/concerns within cost and schedule constraints, following a safety order of precedence to include elimination, substitution, engineering controls, work practice controls, training, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Monitoring employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards
  • Inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Developing and maintaining safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)
  • Developing and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, ATF, TCEQ, TRRC and other applicable regulatory agencies
  • Performing environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental health and safety, engineering, or a related field, and at least 3 years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines. They will also have strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
