Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Leader oversees the operations of the Maintenance Department to ensure that machinery and facilities are maintained in optimal condition to reduce downtime, meet production targets, and uphold product quality.

This role will also manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, implement and supervise preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives, collaborate with engineering on capital expenditure projects, and assess contractors for equipment installation and maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Conducting interviews and selecting candidates, setting job expectations, evaluating performance, mentoring team members, supervising maintenance personnel and contractors, organizing shift schedules, and leading maintenance training sessions.
  • Safety Assurance: Maintaining a strong focus on safety regulations, performing safety audits, ensuring compliance with company policies, and inspecting machinery and equipment for adherence to operational standards.
  • Task Management: Coordinating the activities of personnel involved in the repair, maintenance, and installation/removal of machinery, tools, and equipment; ensuring that maintenance and repair tasks are executed accurately, efficiently, and timely.
  • Planning Development: Assessing systems and facilities, formulating maintenance procedures and schedules, reviewing and suggesting modifications to maintenance equipment and processes, and overseeing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Supply Management: Supervising the procurement of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for operations (MRO purchasing).
  • Request Response: Analyzing work orders to establish priorities, addressing maintenance requests, and escalating issues to management (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic) as necessary.
  • Capital Project Support: Evaluating new equipment plans and discussing equipment requirements and modifications with engineers.
  • Additional Duties: Performing other responsibilities as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Familiarity with European machinery, metric systems, and Euro-drives is highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with scanner technology, sensors, hydraulics, conveyors, belts, welding (MIG, ARC, plasma, gas), fabrication, dust collection systems, fire suppression systems, motors (servo, pneumatic, 480 amp/3 phase), and plumbing is required.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and blueprints for existing equipment and to implement new equipment is essential.
  • Strong understanding of LOTO, hot work permits, and aerial safety regulations is required.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, and respond to off-hour calls to support production is necessary.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and work at heights as needed.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience in implementing and managing a Maintenance Work-Order-System.
  • Hands-on capability and willingness to troubleshoot and perform mechanical work.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and effective organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with PLC, HMI, and VFD drives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and manlifts.
  • Experience with UKG and Workday is preferred.
  • Background in lumber/millwork is preferred.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing maintenance department with direct hourly reports is required.
  • Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and repairing equipment technology.
  • Experience with Six Sigma Lean Yellow Belt, Kaizen, and 5S+1 is highly desired.
