Position Overview
This role is responsible for overseeing the SBA loan closing procedures for less intricate SBA 7(a), 504, and Express loans, ensuring compliance with the policies of Mountain America Credit Union, the United States Small Business Administration (SBA), CFPB, and NCUA regulations. The position also involves participating in departmental administrative tasks and engaging in all phases of the SBA lending process.
Key Responsibilities
To succeed in this role, the individual must effectively manage the following duties:
- Collaborate with SBA loan officers, underwriters, borrowers, title companies, insurance providers, legal counsel, the SBA, and other stakeholders to coordinate, package, document, and fund less complex structured SBA loans, including SBA 7(a), Express, and 504 Loan Programs, typically involving singular borrowers and smaller loan amounts up to $2 million.
- Maintain a solid understanding of SBA eligibility criteria and loan documentation processes to ensure adherence to the SBA's Standard Operating Procedures, Mountain America Credit Union policies, and applicable regulations.
- Demonstrate familiarity with business and personal tax returns, financial statements, and related documentation.
- Exhibit strong written communication skills for loan file documentation, memorandums, and other forms of correspondence.
- Review approved credit memos and loan files to create closing requirements lists, ensuring compliance with loan approval conditions and proper documentation.
- Engage with commercial title companies to resolve exceptions and collateral issues, ensuring proper lien positions on real estate assets.
- Conduct UCC searches and filings to secure appropriate lien positions on UCC collateral.
- Coordinate with insurance companies to verify that loans have adequate insurance coverage, meeting all SBA insurance requirements.
- Prepare all necessary SBA loan documents and manage loan packaging duties, including obtaining SBA approvals through the SBA's ETran system.
- Communicate directly with the SBA to confirm eligibility and compliance, addressing any hold codes required for loan closure.
- Draft all loan documents, including trust deeds, notes, borrower certifications, and all required SBA forms.
- Compile loan memorandums for any assigned loans.
- Process and verify IRS tax transcripts to confirm borrower eligibility for SBA financing.
- Maintain accurate records in loan files, including lien perfection documentation.
- Stay informed on SBA regulations impacting loan documentation and collateral perfection.
- Document and maintain loan ticklers appropriately.
- Oversee post-closing documentation as needed.
- Manage the review, boarding, and funding of SBA loans, including approving wires for other closing specialists.
- Timely prepare assigned origination and closing reports.
- Evaluate professional real estate appraisals for collateral accuracy.
- Review lease agreements and coordinate with the legal team to ensure SBA eligibility.
- Maintain regular communication throughout the origination process with all relevant parties.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders regarding SBA loans.
- Effectively manage multiple loan files simultaneously.
- Collaborate with various teams to achieve organizational goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of SBA eligibility requirements and loan documentation processes.
- Ability to stay updated on SBA regulations and changes.
Minimum of one year of loan closing experience in a financial environment.
Education
Associate degree or equivalent experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Must qualify for access to SBA systems and not be listed on any debarment lists.
Managerial Responsibility
No supervisory responsibilities.
Technical Skills
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with financial reporting or tax analysis software.
- Familiarity with SBA ETran and core banking systems.
- Strong oral communication skills with the ability to present information effectively.
- Proficient writing skills for preparing memorandums and other documentation.
- Demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
