Job Summary

To lead and participate in internal investigations into fiduciary activities of credit union employees and other complex and/or high-value investigations of fraud committed by and against the membership of the credit union, and other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and execute investigations into complex and non-routine suspicious activities of credit union employees; legal issues; and fraud, in close collaboration with other business units as needed.
  • Appropriately document all activities and investigations according to established procedures and quality standards; and gather all physical and digital evidence in accordance with chain-of-custody best practices.
  • Conduct independent research through multiple systems.
  • Independently direct and coordinate the collaboration of multiple business units to obtain data, documents, and information relevant to investigations.
  • Collaborate with Fraud Analysis Team to create and implement strategies to proactively review and investigate suspicious employee activity.
  • Effectively interview complainants and witnesses regarding assigned investigations with the intent to gather information. Effectively interview subjects to either exonerate or obtain an admission of wrong-doing.
  • Complete investigations and provide concise, professional reports, written and/or verbal as required, summarizing investigation findings within established deadlines.
  • Make professional referrals to appropriate federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies for criminal prosecution, as directed. File Suspicious Activity Reports in accordance with established procedures.
  • Testify in court on investigations, as needed.
  • Assist Fraud Investigations Team by autonomously working cases involving check fraud, deposit fraud, electronic payment fraud, Account takeover, ID theft, and loan fraud.
  • Stay up-to-date on credit union policies, procedures, sales campaigns, incentive programs, and other issues relevant to investigations.
  • Comply with all regulations as required by law, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, FACT Act, GLBA, Regulation CC (funds availability), Regulation DD (TIS) and other regulations as required by law as it relates to the position.
  • Process internal and external video requests involving in-branch transactions.
Requirements

  • Five years of internal investigation and investigative interviewing experience. Experience in investigations at a progressive financial institution preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Criminology/Criminal Justice, Accounting, or related field. Education will be verified.
  • OR additional six years' investigation experience (or combination of education and experience. Experience at a progressive financial institution preferred.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Financial Crimes Specialist, Certified Fraud Investigator, Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional or similar professional certification preferred.
Working Conditions

The position is located at Mountain America Center, 9800 S Monroe St, Sandy, UT 84070. The schedule is full-time, with the possibility of a hybrid schedule after the initial training period. The position requires the ability to sit, talk, and hear consistently, as well as the ability to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or reach occasionally. The position also requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally. The work environment is a typical office with moderate noise.
