Job Overview:

This role is essential for managing billing inquiries, follow-ups, and resolving any complications that may hinder the payment process of patient accounts, adhering to Intermountain's established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Welcome patients and provide exceptional service.
  2. Handle incoming calls, take messages, return calls, and supply necessary information while accurately documenting all communications in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  3. Coordinate patient appointments for consultations, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
  4. Process patient registrations, ensuring all demographic information is confirmed and updated in the registration system.
  5. Collect and verify insurance information, including obtaining copies of insurance cards and necessary signatures on forms. Ensure compliance with pre-certification and prior-authorization requirements.
  6. Inform self-pay patients about their financial responsibilities and payment prerequisites. Prepare cost estimates for procedures and assist patients in understanding their financial obligations.
  7. Collect payments from patients, issue accurate receipts, and post transactions in the system. Maintain accurate records of all financial interactions.
  8. Manage departmental work queues and generate reports as needed.
  9. Prepare medical records for patient visits by gathering necessary information from various sources.
  10. Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare, while adhering to service behavior standards.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience in customer service, with direct interaction with clients both in-person and over the phone.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in operating computers and office equipment, requiring dexterity in fingers and hands.
  • Capability to read and interpret information on computer screens and documents.
  • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while performing tasks.
  • May involve lifting and transporting items and office supplies, as well as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
