Key Responsibilities

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting educators within specialized programs. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing student learning and development, including:
  • Supporting educators in instructional tasks and general responsibilities, including organizing and providing tutorial assistance.
  • Facilitating additional student support, including accommodations and online assessments.
  • Managing data entry related to student enrollment and program participation.
  • Assisting in the implementation of programs and supporting logistical efforts such as student transportation and events.
  • Monitoring student behavior and alerting educators to any challenges.
  • Proctoring student assignments and assessments.
  • Performing clerical duties for educators, including scheduling and participating in meetings as needed.
  • Communicating with parents or adult students to gather necessary information.
  • Participating in meetings focused on student success.
  • Providing additional attention and data collection for specific students as required.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to learn and develop expertise in relevant subject areas.
  • Following instructions for developing and implementing student learning plans.
  • Translating communications between students and educators.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with diverse youth populations.
  • Collaborative mindset to support student learning and development.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least two years of college education (48 units) or an Associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of a local assessment of knowledge and skills in instructional assistance.
  • Experience working with students, particularly those from low-income or at-risk backgrounds.
  • Experience in educating individuals with exceptional needs or those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Additional Qualifications for Sign Language Interpreters

Certification in sign language from a recognized body, with the ability to assist students who are deaf or hard of hearing in both individual and group settings.

Travel Requirements
Willingness to travel as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Physical and Mental Demands
  • Ability to manage high workflow and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Finger dexterity for tasks such as typing and handling small objects.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying detailed instructions.
  • Ability to hear and engage in normal conversations.
  • Visual acuity for preparing and inspecting documents.
