Job Summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Assistant, Ophthalmic Coordinator Assistant, or Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in providing top-notch eye care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform standard patient workups, including obtaining histories, reviewing systems, and conducting various ophthalmic tests and examinations.
  • Assist physicians with ophthalmic testing, including A/B Scan, fluorescein/indocyanine green angiography imaging, automated visual fields, OCT, fundus photography, and IOL Master, spectral microscopy, ERG.
  • Coordinate daily schedules, liaise with physicians and staff, and provide patient education and maintain records according to AMA guidelines.
  • Open and close exam lanes, ensuring all equipment is maintained and functioning properly, and stocking and restocking exam rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Assist with EMR entry and other duties, including equipment cleaning.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including phlebotomy, training, and certification.
Requirements
  • Ophthalmic Assistant: High school diploma and at least six (6) months ophthalmic clinical experience.
  • Ophthalmic Coordinator Assistant: High school diploma and at least one (1) year of work experience in Ophthalmology (clinical program practicum experience preferred). Must complete the home study course for Joint Commission of Allied Health personnel in Ophthalmology. Certified as COA by JCAHPO.
  • Ophthalmic Technician: High school diploma and graduation from an accredited approved program for Ophthalmic Technicians, at least one (1) year experience as Ophthalmic Assistant or equivalent and certification as Ophthalmic Technician by Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

  • Some college or college degree preferred.
