Position Overview

Full-Time Residential Youth Support Specialists will receive a $1,000.00 Sign-on Bonus within 12 months of employment. Part-Time positions are also available with a $250.00 Sign-On Bonus within 6 months of employment.


The City of Providence is seeking compassionate individuals dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of youth.


Role Summary: This position involves providing guidance and oversight to children and adolescents in a residential environment. The specialist will assist residents in making informed decisions regarding their daily activities, behavior, and adherence to agency policies, while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations with relevant departments. The goal is to foster an atmosphere that supports the physical and emotional well-being of each child. Responsibilities include the application and upkeep of Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) within the residential setting.


Required Qualifications:

  • The City of Providence values empathetic individuals who are attentive listeners, enjoy engaging with youth, and believe in the potential for growth in every individual, regardless of their past challenges.
  • We operate around the clock and require candidates who are flexible and able to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Applicants may come from diverse educational and experiential backgrounds. Suitable candidates may have prior experience in residential care, degrees in psychology, social work, or related fields. We also welcome those with experience as Community Health Workers, childcare providers, or relevant personal experiences.
  • Staff must demonstrate cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic awareness and sensitivity.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of automobile insurance are essential.
  • Transportation must accommodate a minimum of three passengers in addition to the driver.
  • Bilingual candidates will receive additional compensation.

Physical Demands: This role requires community engagement, and employees must be capable of:

  • Traveling to various community and residential locations, which may involve navigating walkways, stairs, and elevators.
  • Lifting items weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Pushing or pulling loads of 10 lbs or more.
  • Effectively communicating with others.
  • Receiving training in and applying de-escalation techniques as necessary.
