Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and complex technical work in the field of building inspection to ensure compliance with the State Construction Code and other related codes, ordinances, and standards.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect buildings and structures, identify potential hazards, and provide guidance to property owners and contractors.
  • Review and approve building plans and permits to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to resolve building-related issues and ensure public safety.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public, responding to inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience in general building construction as a contractor, skilled worker, or person responsibly in charge of construction.
  • At least three (3) years of previous related enforcement experience within a building department and/or ordinance enforcement agency.
  • Current license from the State of Michigan as a Building Inspector/Plan Examiner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as construction management or architecture.
  • Professional certifications, such as LEED AP or ICC Certified Building Official.
