About the Role

This position is a great opportunity for those passionate about teaching water safety skills to individuals of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach swim lessons according to YMCA standards, focusing on creating a positive learning environment and ensuring swimmer safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student, as well as provide written progress reports.
  • Use swim aids effectively and utilize written lesson plans to maximize practice time and class efficiency.
Requirements
  • A minimum age of 16 years old.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of current certification as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (24 hours) prior to teaching alone or within 90 days if a current Red Cross Swim Instructor.
  • Current status in certifications such as Professional Level CPR, First Aid, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and Oxygen Administration.
  • Completion of Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
  • YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection and I Create Loyalty Training.
  • Successfully complete at least 4 hours teaching under direct supervision before leading a class independently.
  • Presentation of a professional image with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking, squatting, pushing (50 lbs), kneeling, sitting, crouching, stooping, pulling (50 lbs), vision, vocal projection, standing, carrying (50 lbs), lifting (50 lbs), and hearing.
Compensation

The midpoint salary for this position is $12.25 per hour. We typically offer new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on their level of experience.
