Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is a leading engineering and design firm that specializes in water infrastructure projects. Our team of experts is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that meet the complex challenges of this field.

We are currently seeking a Junior Structural Design Engineer to join our team in Charlotte, NC. As a member of our water group, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including steel and concrete structures, site and earthwork, roadway, and utility projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer who enjoys working on challenging projects with regular involvement in structural design, construction cost estimates, and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations and create construction cost estimates for water infrastructure projects.
  • Design steel, concrete, prestressed concrete, and timber structures for water control gates, moorings, and other water-related projects.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop project designs and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities to verify design methodologies, calculations, and outcomes.
  • Interpret and understand drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects and respond to requests for information.
  • Conduct field inspections and surveys to support design and construction efforts.
  • Research and apply code provisions to design water infrastructure projects.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgment to make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
  • Develop drawings by modifying or replicating prior projects, applying changes and corrections from redlined drawings, and/or creating drawings from sketches of others or from own design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • EIT candidates preferred.
  • Interest in structural engineering projects, especially those related to water infrastructure; prior experience preferred but not required.
  • CAD skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation) are a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
