Water Safety Professional

About the Position

This is a part-time position that requires working evenings, weekends, and rotating holidays. The selected candidate will be based at any of our Aquatic facilities, including Ray's Splash Planet, Marion Diehl Recreation Center, Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center, Eastway Regional Recreation Center, and Northern Regional Recreation Center.

Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide a safe swimming environment for the general public. This involves:

  • Patrolling, observing, or monitoring recreational swimming activities in assigned areas;
  • Examining injured persons and administering first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary;
  • Contacting emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury;
  • Rescuing distressed persons using rescue techniques and equipment;
  • Instructing participants in swimming or other recreational activities and providing safety precaution information;
  • Maintaining quality of pool water by testing chemical levels;
  • Warning recreational participants of inclement weather, unsafe areas, or illegal conduct;
  • Inspecting recreational equipment and facilities for safety and cleanliness;
  • Providing assistance in the safe use of equipment;
  • Participating in recreational demonstrations and events;

A successful candidate must possess a Lifeguard certification, CPR certification, and First Aid certification. Additionally, they should have strong knowledge of approved water rescue methods and specific medical first aid techniques.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess at least an eighth (8th) grade education. They must also hold and maintain all required certifications.
