Overview

The U S National Whitewater Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Swiftwater Rescue Instructor to join our team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive training to public safety and military teams in swiftwater rescue techniques.

This position involves teaching a variety of classes, including in-water, nighttime, and raft-based courses. You must be able to convey progressive and best-in-class techniques that enable program participants to save lives in emergency settings.

Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Design and deliver engaging and informative instruction on swiftwater rescue techniques.">
  • Conduct class planning sessions, utilize student-focused instruction techniques, and develop performance assessments.">
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of activities, products, and services offered by the U S National Whitewater Center.">
  • Provide constructive and meaningful feedback to students to foster skill development.">
  • Facilitate swiftwater, flood, and boat-based instruction to groups while proactively managing risks involved with water rescue.">
  • Prioritize thorough communication with the paddle sports team and aid where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operation across public-facing and instruction programs.">

Requirements

  • ">
  • Clear and professional communication skills, including public speaking and demonstration.">
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience guiding or whitewater kayaking in up to Class III whitewater.">
  • Prior experience teaching or facilitating classes.">
  • Prior participation in Swiftwater classes.">
  • Instructor Course Requirements
    • ">
    • Whitewater Level I and II Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Class">
    • 5-day Instructor Candidate Course or Shadow Process">
    • Whitewater guide safety check process">
    ">
  • Current First Aid, CPR & AED Certification – courses are offered by the U S National Whitewater Center.">
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during other U S National Whitewater events as needed.">

Salary

">

$40,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience.

Physical Demands

  • ">
  • Must be able to safely self-transport over uneven terrain or in a confined space.">
  • Must be able to bend, lean, stand, and kneel on a regular basis and for sustained periods of time.">
  • Must be able to lift and move at least 50 pounds.">
  • Must be able to work outdoors for sustained periods of time and in all weather and environmental conditions.">
  • Must be able to instruct in front of large groups for up to 8 hours a day.">
  • Must be able to perform challenging maneuvers confidently and consistently in Class II-IV whitewater.">
  • Must be able to rescue participants in Class II-IV whitewater.">
