Position Overview:


As a Lead Nuclear Safety Consultant, you will be responsible for the creation and upkeep of safety documentation, development of calculations, and conducting thorough reviews of design documents related to high-level waste (HLW) and its associated facilities.

Engage in and spearhead Hazard Analysis initiatives to support the HLW Safety Framework.
Contribute to the formulation of the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis by establishing controls and addressing feedback from both internal and external sources.
This role necessitates collaboration with various engineering disciplines and operational teams, alongside client interactions.
Encourage and cultivate a workplace culture centered on transparency, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and employee satisfaction.
Devise plans and engineering studies aimed at resolving technical challenges.
Draft Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) and elements of the Chemical Safety Management Program.
Lead a multidisciplinary team focused on refining and finalizing the HLW Safety Framework.

Essential Qualifications:

Level 1:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution, accompanied by
9 years of relevant experience.

Level 2:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution, accompanied by
13 years of relevant experience.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Familiarity with DOE nuclear safety protocols and methodologies, including the development of consequence calculations and criticality safety assessments.
Comprehensive understanding of systems, calculations, equipment, and applications of methods, materials, and technologies pertinent to the discipline.
Knowledge of DOE regulatory standards and design/layout criteria relevant to nuclear safety.
Proven proficiency in both oral and written communication, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and other engineering disciplines.

Minimum Requirements:
Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, physical examination (if applicable), and background verification, which includes confirmation of employment and educational credentials.
Must be able to secure a Department of Energy badge for access.
(Even in a remote work setting, compliance with security protocols to obtain a badge is mandatory.)
Must possess the legal right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Experience in designing radiological/chemical process systems.
Expertise in nuclear safety and engineering principles.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a nuclear engineer within a major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facility.
Experience on DOE or DOD government projects, particularly in the design of nuclear or chemical processing facilities.
Experience in developing TSRs.
Experience in conducting hazard analyses and authoring nuclear safety documentation.
Ability to effectively plan and schedule assigned tasks, ensuring timely completion.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Capability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and objectives.
