Position Overview:

This role is situated within the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, focusing on the critical areas of radiological safety and environmental protection. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of licensing activities and inspections related to radiation safety in diverse facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of license applications for the use of byproduct, source, and special nuclear materials.
  • Perform both routine and intricate inspections of operational and decommissioned reactor facilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assess materials licensees to verify adherence to safety protocols and operational criteria.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports that reflect the safety status of facilities and the effectiveness of management control programs.
  • Collaborate with regional management to recommend enforcement actions when significant violations are identified.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a strong foundation in health physics, demonstrated through relevant experience or educational background. A Bachelor’s degree in a natural science or engineering discipline is required, along with specialized experience in radiological safety programs.

Conditions of Employment:

This position requires U.S. citizenship and may involve a background investigation. Candidates should be prepared for a drug testing requirement and must be able to fulfill a two-year trial period.
