Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections for Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and Virginia Water Protection (VWP) across various construction projects.
  • Provide expert guidance on environmental compliance related to construction activities.
  • Document inspections in daily reports and other necessary forms, ensuring concise records of compliance with requirements.
  • Engage with contractors, agency personnel, clients, and other Environmental/Regulatory Specialists.
  • Assist in developing technical documents for regulatory submissions, including permit applications, SWPPP, and compliance reports.

Qualifications

  • A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required.
  • Ability to navigate construction sites effectively.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Knowledge of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Pollution Prevention, Spill Containment Plans, C-107 process, VDOT's VSMP, ESCCC, and MS4 programs.
  • Capability to interpret and apply state and federal environmental laws, regulations, policies, and best practices.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental permit compliance field inspections.

Certifications

  • Certification as a Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ) Dual ESC/SWM Inspector is required.

Physical Requirements
The individual in this role can expect to sit and use their hands for more than one-third of the day, while standing or walking for over two-thirds of the day. Communication through talking and listening will also be necessary for more than one-third of the day. The ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach with arms will be required for more than one-third of the day. Additionally, the role may involve lifting items up to 80 pounds on an infrequent basis. Clear vision at 20 inches or less is necessary, along with the ability to distinguish colors and depth perception.
