Leidos is seeking skilled professionals to contribute to the design, validation, and assembly of essential control systems for our Defense Department clientele. Our current initiatives are dedicated to supporting the warfighter of tomorrow. We operate a flexible, high-mix, low-rate production facility where we innovate and qualify new products, specifically electro-mechanical devices and components, while providing ongoing support for an extended period.

As an Electro-Mechanical Production Engineer, you will be an integral member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Production Manager. You will collaborate closely with teams from Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, and Project Management.

Your role will require the application of engineering and manufacturing principles, analytical skills, and techniques to enhance production efficiency and achieve optimal results. This position operates under general supervision and direction, allowing for significant decision-making authority.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop manufacturing sequences and processes, along with necessary tooling and testing fixtures for the successful completion of all program hardware deliverables.
  • Provide continuous floor support and coordinate efforts to enhance producibility and implement ongoing process and product improvements. Act as a Subject Matter Expert in various process areas.
  • Analyze and interpret engineering drawings, performance specifications, electronic files, supplier component specifications, and relevant design information.
  • Extract and formulate manufacturing concepts and methodologies that align with customer and company specifications from electrical and mechanical drawings and associated engineering data.
  • Contribute to concurrent engineering design efforts to ensure manufacturability during the production phase.
  • Identify critical processes for trend analysis and perform assessments to ensure compliance with contractual obligations while enhancing manufacturing processes and capabilities.
  • Facilitate the coordination of all aspects of Material Review Board (MRB) activities to enact corrective and preventive measures.
  • Create assembly instructions for our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) or Build Assembly documentation, while identifying opportunities for process enhancements.
  • Establish manufacturing processes with formal metrics aimed at Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing techniques to minimize costs and waste.
  • Work alongside the Engineering Department to implement Design For Assembly (DFA) principles, participate in engineering technical reviews as necessary, support First Article production, and develop initial assembly work instructions for new products.
  • Advise engineering teams on design concepts and specification requirements to optimize equipment use and manufacturing techniques.
  • Assist Quality Assurance in investigating failures or defects, support root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to foster continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Over eight years of experience in designing or assembling electro-mechanical systems within an ISO 9001 or AS9100 production setting.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Management or leadership experience collaborating with diverse disciplines to achieve shared objectives.
  • Experience in establishing shop floors for various production models (cell, assembly line, etc.) to maximize efficiency.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, and operational procedures.
  • Capability to produce assembly and testing documentation for assigned products with support from Engineering and Quality Assurance.
  • Experience in producibility engineering/DFA in an electro-mechanical context.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret security clearance; must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with relevant experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint ERP.
  • Knowledge of PTC Windchill PLM.
  • Experience with iBase-t Solumina MES.
  • CAD proficiency, preferably with Dassault Systems SolidWorks.
  • Hands-on experience using a Manufacturing Execution System/MES, preferably Solumina.
  • Experience in creating and delivering training programs for production teams.
