Job Overview:

This position resides in the Department of Revenue, State of Montana. The Information Protection Specialist is responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational information protection posture is maintained for each of the department's information systems. The incumbent performs a variety of duties assigned by management, including developing and implementing Information Protection (IP) policy and procedure, coordinating the identification, implementation, and assessment of common information protection controls, and evaluating and recommending measures for department operations to maintain required levels of information protection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement Information Protection (IP) policy and procedure
  • Coordinate the identification, implementation, and assessment of common information protection controls
  • Evaluate and recommend measures for department operations to maintain required levels of information protection
  • Review information systems security procedures
  • Provide system documentation and user support to ensure continuity and compliance of department business operations
  • Evaluate real or suspected events within the agency
  • Develop agency policies, standards, and procedures for evaluating and referring investigations to other qualified entities
  • Provide resolution recommendations
Requirements:
  • Principles and practices of computer science and information systems administration
  • State and department information technology processes
  • Information security techniques and processes; database auditing techniques and programs
  • Computer equipment and technology systems used, or likely to be used, by the department
  • Disaster recovery planning and implementation
  • Network and database administration
  • Customer service principles and processes, including customer needs assessment
  • Evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Meeting quality standards for services
  • Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) tools and techniques
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Security and Privacy Controls for Information Systems and Organizations
  • Research and analysis
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Conflict resolution and customer service
  • Microsoft programs and other database applications
  • Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
Working Conditions:
  • Work hours may exceed 40 hours from time to time, including weekends
  • Office environment
  • Lifting is infrequent, less than 15 pounds
  • Some travel may be required, must have a valid driver's license
Remote/Telework:

This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite within the state of Montana. This position would be required to report to a Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program.

Training Assignment:

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
