Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a Financial Reporting Analyst to support our client. This role is a temporary contract position that involves critical financial analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ongoing analysis of capital project cost reports, ensuring accuracy through collaboration with various departments.
  • Reconcile capital project cost reports with the general ledger and fixed asset records.
  • Assist in preparing schedules, reports, and analyses required by both internal and external auditors.
  • Establish or revise accounting procedures to align with federal or state regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Create, update, and maintain operational manuals detailing policies, functions, and projects within the Controller's Office.
  • Examine and verify the reliability of payroll records, accounts payable documents, and general accounting records.
  • Support the monthly and year-end closing processes for the District's financial records.
  • Review journal entries prepared by accountants for accuracy and completeness.
  • Respond to surveys, questionnaires, and other statistical inquiries related to the District's financial reports.
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments, accountants, and clerical staff.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of professional accounting experience, preferably within a government or public agency environment.
  • Substitution: An Associate in Arts degree in accounting plus seven (7) years of full-charge bookkeeping experience; or an Associate in Arts degree in accounting plus six (6) years of varied accounting experience as a Junior Accountant; or 24 degree-related units in accounting plus six (6) years of professional accounting experience. A bachelor's degree is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of: Principles and practices of general, commercial, fund, and governmental accounting; payroll processing principles; business data processing related to accounting information; budgeting principles; and applicable laws regulating public fiscal operations.
  • Skills/Abilities: Ability to review and interpret complex financial reports; verify financial data accuracy; ensure proper authorization for disbursements; analyze and reconcile financial data; prepare clear financial reports; and establish effective working relationships.
