Overview:

The Utility Systems Engineer plays a critical role in overseeing and optimizing programs related to distribution assets. This includes, but is not limited to, managing Poles, Equipment Maintenance (such as reclosers, regulators, capacitors, transformers), Underground and Overhead Maintenance, Reliability assessments, and Outage Analysis. The engineer collaborates closely with various teams including Planning, Design, Standards Engineering, and Financial Business Partners to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts comprehensive engineering analyses to support distribution-related functions such as planning, maintenance, design, project management, and operational activities.
  • Utilizes engineering principles and best practices to devise effective solutions, enhance services, and address business challenges.
  • Evaluates engineering alternatives and applies relevant electrical codes, standards, and policies in decision-making processes.
  • Ensures compliance with industry standards and utility regulations while collaborating with other disciplines within the organization.
  • Participates in storm and emergency restoration efforts as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial) from an accredited institution.
  • Consideration may be given to degrees in engineering technology with a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Preferred: Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience:

  • Engineer II: Minimum of 2 years in an engineering role.
  • Engineer III: Minimum of 4 years in an engineering role.
  • Senior Engineer: Minimum of 6 years in an engineering role.
  • Preferred experience in Planning, Field, or Reliability engineering.

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated proficiency in applying engineering principles, strong understanding of relevant procedures and standards, and the ability to exercise sound engineering judgment. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential. Strong mathematical and project management capabilities are required, along with proficiency in computer operations and software. The ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities is crucial, as is a commitment to safety and recognizing workplace hazards.

Certifications:

Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory.
