Senior Legal Director

About the Role:

Meltwater is seeking a seasoned commercial transactions attorney to join our legal team. As a Senior Legal Director, you will play a critical role in leading complex negotiations, managing legal risks, and supporting sales teams in achieving their goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic legal advice to the company's sales leadership team, communicating complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  2. Lead negotiations on high-stakes commercial transactions and partnerships, identifying and mitigating potential legal risks.
  3. Manage and develop a team of attorneys globally, guiding them on a high volume of commercial transactions and managing escalations.
  4. Develop and implement effective legal terms related to commercial transactions, training sales and deal desk teams on the terms.
  5. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify process improvements and drive continuous innovation in the contracting process.

Requirements:

  1. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  2. Active license to practice law (preferably in California).
  3. 10+ years of experience as a commercial transactions attorney in-house (preferably in technology, media, SaaS, or cloud industries).
  4. Excellent negotiation, legal drafting, and communication skills.
  5. Experience in areas of intellectual property and data privacy law.
  6. A proven track-record of working effectively with sales teams, exercising sound judgment that incorporates strong legal analysis, a pragmatic approach, and consideration of business goals, risk tolerance, and stakeholder priorities.
  7. Ability to balance a high volume of legal matters in a timely and effective manner.
  8. Knowledge and understanding of doing business globally, including working across organizational, functional, and geographic boundaries.
  9. Strong EQ and interpersonal skills, a collaborative nature, and the ability to work and communicate cross-functionally.
  10. A team player who values client/customer service and professionalism.
  11. Experience in managing and developing attorneys at different levels.
