Job Summary

The Greater Los Angeles Veterans Research and Education Foundation is seeking a skilled Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team in the Veterinary Medical Unit (VMU) of Research Service. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the care and maintenance of laboratory animals, ensuring their health and well-being in a safe and controlled environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Care and Maintenance: Provide daily care and maintenance of laboratory animals, including examination for health conditions, administering prophylactic treatment and medications, and collecting biological specimens.
  • Animal Handling and Restraint: Safely handle and restrain laboratory animals for manipulation by other caretakers or Animal Health Technicians.
  • Cage Cleaning and Sanitation: Clean, sanitize, and sterilize animal enclosures, food and water dishes, and other equipment to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and complete records of job-related activities, including animal care, treatment, and maintenance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with supervisors, Animal Health Technicians, and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the VMU.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in animal care or a related field.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to lift and move equipment and animals as needed.
