Medical Assistant

Howard Brown Health is a leading healthcare organization dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team as a Patient Support Specialist.
Key Responsibilities- Support the delivery of care to patients and guide them throughout the clinical care process, under the direction of the Practice Manager and care team.
- Perform patient support services, including rooming, taking and documenting vitals, collecting lab samples, and supporting patients with the acquisition of ancillary services.
- Assist licensed Medical Providers with recording and updating patient medical, social, and medication histories.
- Assist licensed Medical Providers during in-person and virtual appointments, patient examinations, and procedures.
- Perform EKG, spirometry tests, hearing tests, vision/acuity tests, and other ambulatory testing as ordered by licensed Medical Providers.
- Support laboratory operations, including specimen requisition review and blood and non-blood specimen collections.
- Perform medical equipment maintenance and logging, including decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of required instruments and equipment.
- Prepare and administer vaccines following licensed Medical Provider instructions and/or standing order protocols.
- Report patient observations to responsible licensed Medical Providers.
- Record collected patient health data in the EMR system and manage EMR patient messages and medical refill requests.
- Maintain and report clinic supply inventory needs and stock essential clinical areas for patient care.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of clinic examination rooms, equipment, and work areas.
- Maintain logs for refrigerator/freezer temperatures, medication storage, controls for care point-of-care testing, and medical equipment maintenance.
- Participate in quality assurance processes via data collection, results evaluation, and recommendations implementation.
- Attend and participate in huddles, mandatory department meetings, job-specific trainings, and development sessions.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent required.
- 0-2 years of experience working in a medical services setting required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support AHA or ARC in-person training required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) written and verbal skills preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare setting serving HIV/AIDS clients preferred.
- Experience with Obstetrics and Pediatrics preferred.
