About the Job

This is a full-time hourly position at Texas Tech University. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Museum and its visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Open and close the Museum, including disarming and arming alarms, lights, and videos.
  • Conduct regular checks of offices, areas, appliances, and stoves to ensure they are secure and functioning properly.
  • Assist with the maintenance and operation of a scissor lift and indoor forklift.
  • Alert staff to building maintenance needs, the arrival and delivery of personnel, and escort visitors in secured areas.
  • Responsible for picking up outgoing mail and placing it in the mail room, and taking incoming mail to the Administration Office.
  • Log in items for the lost and found and be alert for any signs of safety hazards.
  • Monitor galleries, complete a gallery checklist, and ensure that gallery information guidelines are available for visitors to use.
  • Count and enter daily reports on visitor numbers.
  • Patrol the Museum and be alert to any visitors violating posted rules.
  • Familiar with and enforce safety guidelines, and alert to signs of vandalism, illegal entry, etc., and periodic checks of the building exterior.
  • Report incidents of injury regarding the public and staff to the appropriate personnel.
  • Report problems regarding safety hazards or maintenance issues to the appropriate staff and the Operations Manager for timely repair.
  • While at the info/security desk, be alert to entering visitors, staff, and students, distribute keys and badges, monitor videos and radios for illegal entry and weather reports, and answer the telephone and make announcements.
  • Check and respond to alarms, and provide customer service.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in written and mathematical processes as may be reflected by the completion of the tenth grade plus one year of security, customer service, public relations, or related experience.
  • Ability to react calmly, quickly, and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with the general public.
  • Ability to interpret and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to be flexible as the work week can vary from Monday through Sunday.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
