As a Rocket Systems Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic and fast-paced engineering team focused on the design, construction, and optimization of the fluid systems that power our advanced rockets.

Your role will involve a hands-on approach to engineering challenges, where you will be responsible for:


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducting analysis, designing, and constructing systems that are critical for rocket launches and testing.
  • Overseeing projects from inception to completion, including hosting design reviews, justifying project decisions, procuring equipment, and collaborating on the construction of your designs.
  • Creating modular hardware that can be produced at scale for future launch facilities worldwide.
  • Utilizing interdisciplinary engineering skills in system-level process design, detailed thermal and fluid analysis, structural engineering, and cost/schedule optimization.
  • Collaborating closely with technicians and support teams to implement your designs and address real-time challenges.
  • Maintaining a close partnership with the launch operations team to adapt plans swiftly to meet demanding timelines.
  • Activating and troubleshooting equipment to meet design goals and refining maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Independently assessing complex issues and devising innovative solutions that align with program objectives.
  • Engaging in hands-on field projects essential for maintaining our launch capabilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of practical experience in design or construction (internships, clubs, and competition teams are acceptable).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Strong ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating initiative and effective communication.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing roles and responsibilities while maintaining urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in problem-solving under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of fluid and structural/mechanical systems.
  • Creativity in designing for reliability, efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Hands-on experience with machining, welding, and fabrication techniques is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, testing, data analysis, and verification against models.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical, fluids, or thermal design in an industrial context.
  • Experience with high-pressure and cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Ability to produce detailed drawings for fabrication processes.
  • Collaborative mindset focused on finding optimal solutions while balancing cost and schedule.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to foresee interactions with other systems to prevent issues.
  • Intermediate proficiency in CAD software (NX is a plus).
  • Capability to verify designs through simplified calculations; experience with FEA or CFD is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of ASME piping and pressure vessel design.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to tackling challenges and opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Willingness to respond to emergencies and support priority projects and launches.
  • Availability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary; flexibility is essential.
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures and weather.
  • Comfortable working in environments with exposure to fumes, odors, and noise.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks requiring agility and strength, including lifting up to 25 lbs unassisted.
  • Ability to work at heights (up to 300 feet) with appropriate safety equipment.
