Position Overview
We are actively seeking a Project Manager specializing in Life Science Research. We are open to considering candidates with more extensive experience for roles such as Program Manager or Senior Program Manager, depending on qualifications and project requirements.
The Clinical & Non-Clinical Research team at Battelle offers a highly skilled workforce and state-of-the-art facilities to support clients in infectious disease, inhalation research, and chemical research programs. Our integrated, multidisciplinary approach accelerates development while ensuring quality and compliance for our biotech, pharmaceutical, agrichemical, industrial, and governmental clients.
This role will function as a project manager within a matrixed organization, necessitating effective coordination among project team members. Responsibilities include program development, implementation, and management of program costs, schedules, and performance metrics, all while meeting client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Define project/program requirements and identify all components of cost, schedule, and technical performance. Refine the Work Breakdown Structure to accurately reflect all tasks necessary for project completion.
- Act as the primary contact for scientific and financial discussions with clients in infectious disease and toxicology sectors. Build and maintain strong client relationships and facilitate both in-person and virtual meetings.
- Utilize standard program management tools, such as MS Project, to manage costs, schedules, and performance. Assist team members and assess the impact of scope, schedule, and budget changes, ensuring adherence to baseline agreements.
- Support the Business Development team in capturing opportunities and preparing proposals for small to medium-sized projects. Contribute to proposal efforts by articulating the problem, proposed management strategies, and client benefits.
- Collaborate with Battelle contracts managers to interpret contract information relevant to program scope, deliverables, scheduling, and terms. This may involve government or commercial contracts.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to internal management and external customers, providing updates on technical aspects, costs, and schedules.
- Proactively manage project risks using established risk management practices. Identify, analyze, classify, and mitigate prioritized project risks.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, conducting safety checks and adhering to workplace safety regulations.
- Stay informed about project management best practices and ensure compliance with relevant quality systems and industry regulations.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or a related field, or a master’s degree in the same areas with at least 1-10 years of project management experience in life sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with government accounting practices, including contract types and project management tools.
- Experience with project management software such as Planisware is preferred.
- Willingness to travel locally as required.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with government contracts.
- PMP Certification.
- Advanced degree.
- Experience in securing and managing government contracts and grants.
