About this Role

Palm Beach State College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanics Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for providing instruction and performing lab-related activities for our Diesel Technology program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in accordance with published course descriptions, schedules, procedures, and course outlines furnished to students.
  • Assess students' proficiency and conduct ongoing evaluation and prepare grade reports of student progress and maintain records of student course performance.
  • Develop and maintain various assessment instruments and supplemental educational materials.
  • Interact with students both within and outside the instructional, student, and academic setting in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Design and prepare curriculum of course-related materials.
  • Maximize learning and retention through the use of skill-building resources.
  • Assist with the development, evaluation, and purchase of lab and program materials and resources.
  • Conduct basic maintenance on equipment within industrial trade program labs according to OSHA and related safety standards.
  • Plan and document current and future inventory needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Specialized training/industry certifications, ASE Certified Master Medium-Heavy Truck Certification (T2-T8), and EPA 609 Technician Certification.
  • Six years of experience as a medium or heavy-duty truck technician.
  • Demonstrated competency in teaching the discipline.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional or similar application.
  • Skilled in attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • Ability to demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom.
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends, and on multiple campuses if needed.
Work Environment and Physical Demand
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install, or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install, or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Reach and grasp objects.
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Use of video display terminal.
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Communicate information orally and in writing.
  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication.
  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy.
  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury.
  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions.
