We are currently seeking a seasoned nonprofit leader to join our dedicated team as the Chief Executive Officer.

The Chief Executive Officer serves as the principal administrative officer of the organization and is accountable for the daily management of the organization, including the oversight of both paid and volunteer staff.


Key Responsibilities Include:
Program Oversight, Fundraising, Communications and Community Engagement, and Financial Management. The Chief Executive Officer collaborates closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization's success. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a small nonprofit that is making a significant impact in our community. This is a full-time, in-person position that offers a flexible work schedule and opportunities for professional growth.

POSITION SUMMARY
Program Oversight

  • Support staff and volunteer initiatives to deliver exceptional programs
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of best practices and quality standards specific to the ESOL sector; obtain necessary expertise and/or certifications required for the role
  • Manage and coordinate a comprehensive calendar of grant writing and fundraising activities, including annual appeals, special events, and online auctions
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to enhance revenue through fundraising and stewardship initiatives
  • Cultivate relationships with local funders, including foundations and community organizations
  • Oversee the donor database and manage data entry and gift processing
Communications and Community Engagement

  • Publicly represent and articulate the vision, mission, and values of EAL to current and prospective funders, community organizations, and the media
  • Plan and produce high-quality communications, including newsletters, annual reports, and press releases
  • Create content and continually update EAL's online presence, including social media and website
  • Initiate, plan, and support events and activities that honor and engage learners, volunteers, and community members
Financial Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the office
  • Perform bookkeeping duties; manage budget and finances in collaboration with the Board Treasurer
  • Prepare materials for the annual financial review, in cooperation with the contracted CPA
  • Establish and manage vendor relationships
  • Serve as the HR Director; recruit, hire, and supervise all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers
o Ensure compliance with current HR best practices
o Update Personnel Policies as needed
Board of Directors and Committees

  • Attend and report at all meetings of the Board and its Executive Committee
  • Provide administrative support to Board committees as requested

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in nonprofit management, preferably in adult literacy, immigrant services, education, or a related field
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Proven success in securing funds through corporate and foundation grants, individual donors, and events
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong public speaking abilities
  • Experience in program management and leading staff and volunteers
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and database applications; experience with website management is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage details effectively.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, a positive attitude, flexibility, and resourcefulness

  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and contribute to organizational success as part of a team
  • Appreciation for volunteers and experience in volunteer training

  • Access to a car with a valid driver's license
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
