Compensation Overview:

The annual base salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range, encompassing a variety of salaries for this role across the country.

The actual salary will be influenced by factors such as the role's scope, complexity, and location, along with the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.

As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

In the realm of Business Insurance Actuarial and Analytics, we provide customized analytics and innovative data science solutions that drive decision-making and yield exceptional results.

This Director-level actuarial position is pivotal in managing and enhancing Rate Adequacy for Commercial Property, Inland Marine, Ocean Marine, and Boiler lines of business, which collectively represent over $6 billion in annual premium.

You will lead analytical efforts and communicate findings to both actuarial and non-actuarial leaders across multiple business units.

Additionally, you will collaborate with teams focused on Enterprise Catastrophe Strategy, ERM, and Reinsurance to assess the effects of catastrophes and reinsurance on profitability and pricing.

This role requires close collaboration with Business Unit Actuaries and the Cross-Lines Initiatives team, as well as colleagues in Property and Specialty Actuarial Product, to align Rate Adequacy with other profitability metrics and advance the science and efficiency of Rate Adequacy beyond conventional methods.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:
Evaluate, prioritize, and communicate strategic initiative options to senior management.

Ensure effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.

Continuously identify process improvements and explore innovative opportunities.

Lead unit-specific strategic initiatives and participate in broader Enterprise initiatives as needed.


Operational Excellence:
Conduct independent actuarial and analytical analyses to address business challenges and apply sound judgment.

Oversee daily operations within the unit while supporting department-wide initiatives.

Enhance efficiency within the primary working group, balancing additional efforts against the benefits gained.

Make independent decisions in line with departmental practices.

Guide and review the analytical work of others.

Translate business needs into analytical solutions.

Provide support for Enterprise initiatives within your area of influence.

Effective Communication:
Maintain regular communication with staff, peers, and business partners, and occasionally with senior leaders.

Tailor communications regarding analysis, project outcomes, and business initiatives to the audience.

Convey technical subjects to non-technical audiences with minimal guidance.

Facilitate group discussions within the primary working group.

Create formal written communications, such as memos or presentations, with limited guidance.

Influence and collaborate with peers and partners to enhance business outcomes.

Talent Development:
Manage a small team of individual contributors.

Focus on the acquisition, retention, and development of talent within the unit.

Implement and communicate talent development processes, including performance and personal development goals.

Engage in succession planning and talent assessment recommendations.

Support staff engagement in cross-Enterprise initiatives.

Mentor less experienced talent across the organization.

Onboard new employees and interns within the unit.

Facilitate various training and skill development initiatives across the organization.

Assist with recruiting efforts and candidate assessments as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

College degree in a STEM-related field.

Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.

7+ years of experience in quantitative analysis.

Strong understanding of insurance products and the industry.

Proven expertise in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.

Management experience is essential.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to present and translate complex information into relevant business terms.

Strong proficiency in PC skills (MS Office) and programming skills (e.g., SQL, SAS).

Essential Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree required.

A minimum of 4 years of experience in quantitative analysis is required.
