Role Summary and Responsibilities

The Critical Care Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-focused care. Collaborating with medical professionals, the RN provides both pre-operative and post-operative nursing support. The RN acts as a patient advocate to ensure an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patient conditions upon admission and throughout each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in status.
  • Carry out procedures or tasks as directed by the medical team.
  • Accurately document care provided in the patient medical record in a timely manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient responses.
  • Maintain knowledge of medications, procedures, and equipment relevant to the care of cardiac and medical-surgical patients.

Qualifications Required:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is mandatory.
  • Active Virginia Registered Nurse license or Compact State RN license is required.
  • Nursing graduate with RN Diploma or Associate Degree is necessary.
  • Completion of a cardiac rhythm interpretation or challenge test within 15 months of hire.
