Position Overview

The Probate Court Administrator I is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of court documentation for the Probate Office and Probate Court. This role includes the creation of reports, correspondence, and legal documentation. The administrator will conduct research in the records room and utilize IBM terminals. Scheduling of court hearings and meetings is also a key responsibility. The position requires addressing inquiries from the public, legal professionals, and other stakeholders. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check and are subject to a pre-employment physical examination.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee and manage a variety of court cases and legal documents, including the preparation of legal documents, coordinating the Judge's calendar with attorneys, and organizing court files for recordation.
  2. Handle billing and receipt processing, ensuring daily financial balances are maintained.
  3. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Probate Judge or Probate Court Administrator III.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. A minimum of two (2) years of legal experience in a court environment or law office is required.
Additional Requirements
  1. Willingness to travel for workshops, conferences, and seminars as necessary.
  2. Availability to work overtime, non-standard hours, or weekends to meet deadlines.
Skills and Competencies
  1. Strong verbal communication skills to effectively interact with office staff, attorneys, and the public.
  2. Basic mathematical skills for financial transactions.
  3. Proficient writing skills for completing forms, reports, and legal documents accurately.
  4. Reading comprehension skills to understand codes, regulations, and policies.
  5. Knowledge of county rules, policies, and regulations.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  7. Good judgment in decision-making in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  8. Proficient in operating office equipment such as copiers, calculators, typewriters, PCs, and printers.
  9. Familiarity with filing systems.
