Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts independent evaluations of technical submissions, focusing on shoring and falsework among other elements.
  • Reviews change orders, submittals, shop drawings, materials testing, surveying, RFIs, and engineering drawings, preparing professional communications as necessary.
  • Engages in diverse structural engineering tasks, including but not limited to bridges, retaining walls, sound barriers, pump stations, and buildings.
  • Collaborates with technical field inspectors and project teams to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Performs field inspections, oversees contract administration related to structures, and prepares change orders.
  • Manages projects in the absence of the Resident Engineer.
  • Supervises professional and technical staff along with contract administration duties.
  • Monitors and assesses contractors' construction schedules.
  • Documents daily construction activities, including reports and diaries.
  • Verifies the quality of materials used in projects and maintains comprehensive material and inspection records.
  • Assists in recruitment and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in contract claims and strategies for claim avoidance.
  • Coordinates with contractors and agencies on various tasks and projects.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

Minimum Education and Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • California registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) is mandatory.
  • A valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
Minimum Experience
  • At least 7 years of experience in construction contract management related to bridge and/or structural projects.
  • Familiarity with CALTRANS methods and procedures, municipal agency projects, and document coordination on federally funded projects is preferred.
Essential Skills
  • Knowledgeable in construction methods, procedures, and standard plans and specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff and external parties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Capable of performing engineering calculations and applying relevant concepts.
  • Adept at assessing project challenges and modifications.
Travel Requirements

Travel may be required up to 75% of the time, including the ability to work overtime and nights as necessary.
