Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough evaluations of technical submissions, focusing on aspects such as shoring and falsework.
  • Assesses change orders, submittals, shop drawings, and materials testing, while preparing professional communications regarding these documents.
  • Engages in diverse structural engineering tasks, encompassing bridges, retaining walls, sound barriers, pump stations, and various building types.
  • Collaborates with technical field inspectors and project teams to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Implements field inspections, manages contract administration related to structures, and prepares change orders.
  • Oversees project administration in the absence of the Resident Engineer.
  • Leads professional and technical teams, ensuring effective contract management.
  • Monitors and evaluates construction schedules provided by contractors.
  • Documents daily construction activities, maintaining accurate reports and project records.
  • Verifies the quality of materials used in projects and keeps detailed inspection records.
  • Assists in recruitment processes and conducts performance assessments.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in contract claims and strategies for claim avoidance.
  • Coordinates with contractors and agencies on various tasks and projects.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • California registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) is mandatory.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in construction contract management, specifically in bridge and/or structural projects.
  • Familiarity with CALTRANS procedures and municipal agency projects, as well as experience with federally funded project documentation, is preferred.

Essential Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, Caltrans standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with contractors, agency personnel, and the public.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong foundation in engineering calculations and principles.
  • Adept at evaluating project challenges and modifications.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be required up to 75% of the time, including the potential for overtime and night work.
