Position Summary: Under the guidance of the P.E./Sports and Aquatics Director, the Gym Monitor plays a crucial role in overseeing the activities and operations at RTHCC. This position requires monitoring athletic facilities, ensuring participant safety, and assisting with various programs. The focus of RTH athletic initiatives is on participation, inclusion, enjoyment, and fair play. Gym Monitors are expected to maintain a positive and supportive demeanor, advocate for health and fitness, and foster an environment that promotes a rewarding sports experience. Responsibilities also include ensuring the gymnasium is safe and well-maintained during operational hours, while building relationships with members to guarantee equitable access to gym facilities for all. This role embodies the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:

  • Ensure all programs and activities are conducted safely and are well-equipped.
  • Adhere to RTH program standards and safety protocols.
  • Implement risk management policies for all activities.
  • Exhibit exemplary customer service skills and serve as a role model for residents and participants.
  • Contribute to a positive and secure work environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings as required.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies to ensure participant safety.
  • Familiarize with and follow Emergency Action Plans, participating in practice drills.
  • Review and enforce gymnasium policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and respond to communications within a timely manner.
  • Complete and submit reports and attendance records punctually.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Program Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coaching and instructing P.E. sports classes and programs, implementing best practices.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate programs and activities related to P.E./Sports.
  • Enforce the rules of the sports being played.
  • Monitor time and announce breaks during activities.
  • Observe participant behavior to ensure compliance with conduct rules.
  • Inspect sports equipment to meet organizational standards.
  • Ensure each athlete receives equal attention for their development.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Keep the facility clean and perform routine maintenance.
  • Start and conclude each session on time, addressing participant inquiries and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Teach sport-specific classes and monitor gym activities as needed.
  • Support resident involvement through community outreach and assist in marketing program information.
  • Ensure gym facilities and equipment are well-maintained to support program participation.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include:

  • Ability to interact with residents and participants both physically and verbally.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Engagement in physical activities such as standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, and bending.
  • Familiarity with RTH policies and facility regulations.
  • Ability to observe participant activities and enforce safety regulations effectively.
