Administrative Specialist

The Outpatient Administrative Specialist will perform a variety of administrative tasks to support the delivery of high-quality patient care. This includes checking in and out patients, verifying demographic and insurance information, and generating routine forms and documentation. Additionally, the specialist will be responsible for completing FMLA and Disability forms as needed, processing patient appointment referrals, and scheduling complex appointments. They will also provide administrative support to ambulatory patient care functions, collect patient co-pays, and manage denial processes. Furthermore, the specialist will work with patients to understand insurance carrier requirements and obtain necessary documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Verify patient demographic and insurance information
• Generate routine forms and documentation
• Complete FMLA and Disability forms as needed
• Process patient appointment referrals
• Schedule complex appointments
• Provide administrative support to ambulatory patient care functions
• Collect patient co-pays and manage denial processes
• Work with patients to understand insurance carrier requirements
Requirements:
• Associates Degree and two years of relevant patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical coding
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to multitask and work in a high-volume setting
• Strong computer skills and keyboarding abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of computer systems such as Epic, Word, and Groupwise
• Understanding of insurances and referrals
Work Environment:
This position will work in a fast-paced outpatient setting, interacting with patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals. The specialist will be required to work independently and as part of a team to ensure the smooth operation of patient care services.
